SNAPCHAT MADE YOU ADDICTIVE, & THERE IS NO LYING ABOUT IT!
Snapchat made you addictive and there is no lying about it. Snapchat was launched in 2011 as an application that allows users to share photos and short videos that disappears in moments. People loved it. The youngsters are just loving it.
In just two years the application had over 100 million users across the globe. They soon realize the users are not much active as they expected. They found that the application is not used daily, thus it would take away users sooner or later with lack of interest.
WHAT CHANGED THEN?
In my opinion, these were the major updates that led Snapchat’s evolution to be one of the best application for marketing mix. It soon became the most commonly used application thereafter till date.
Snapchat introduced a feature called “MY STORY” in 2013. This led users to share their stories with everyone, resulting in more engagement from the users. Users used this feature extensively.
Later, SC updated with a new feature called “BITMOJI” that resembles the users. Creating a character that resembles you and using it as expression was something new back then. SC was soon popular with this feature getting viral. More and more users started creating their bitmoji characters.
Eventually, the users found nothing startling about SC. So Snapchat launched filters and plenty of them for the users. Today, users can create customized lenses and filters.
One of the most fascinating feature among all was launched in 2014 – Snapchat Streaks (Snap Streaks). The concept of maintaining the streaks kept users using the application every day. Making it a habit for the users. This concept lasted for a long period as to have the highest streak among the users was a trend.
Who wouldn’t wish to sneak a peek at the lifestyle of their favourite celebrity? Snapchat introduced a subscription model for the users to know the daily lifestyle of the celebrities.
Snapchat did was to create a habit among the users to use the application regularly. When they realised one purpose may not satisfy to build a habit, they launched these 5 factors to create more purposes.
The application is used less by the users. However, the same application provides multiple reasons to have it installed.
In the most recent update, one can make short videos like Instagram Reels and TikTok to understand the trend of short videos.
User engagement is the most important marketing strategy to be applied in any application. Snapchat teaches us the exact thing.
